The Meaning of a Wedding Band

A wedding band is the most visible outward sign of your marriage. Informing the world at large that you are committed to a union for life, it symbolises love, unity, and faithfulness to your spouse. As such, wedding bands have a sacred significance, and some mean so much in a family that they have been passed down for generations as heirlooms. In addition to the significance of the band itself, diamond wedding rings also have the meaning of eternity, as diamonds are among the hardest and most durable substances on earth, and they symbolise that the love in a marriage will also last forever.

Since millennia ago in ancient Greece, wedding bands have traditionally been worn on the ring finger of the left hand, as it was believed that that finger was connected directly to the heart, and so it symbolized putting a ring on the heart itself.

Diamond Rings and Other Wedding Band Designs

wedding band come in all sizes and designs, from a simple thin ring of precious metal, to elegant creations that feature both metallic shapes and elements as well as glorious gemstones. The most popular wedding ring design of all is the diamond ring. Depending on your taste and your lifestyle, you may choose either a simpler or a more ornate design to honour your partner and provide something you will love to see on your finger everyday.

It is common for men to wear simpler designs, though more and more today are also looking for stylish and visually exciting designs to complement their partners’ rings. Some couples even have both simple and ornate wedding bands, so that they can wear the less costly design at work or when travelling to avoid loss or damage.

Find Your Diamond Ring Size: How to Measure your Finger

To find out your ring size, you can follow these simple steps:

  1. Wrap string or paper around the base of your finger.
  2. Mark the point where the ends meet with a pen.
  3. Measure the string or paper with a ruler (mm).
  4. Pick the closest measurement on a ring size chart to find your ring size.

Tips for better measurement:

  • If your knuckle is bigger than the base of your finger, you should measure both places and pick a size in between the two, to ensure your ring will pass comfortably over your knuckle.
  • Measure your ring size at different times of the day, as your finger size changes depending on the time of day and the temperature.
  • Measure 3 to 4 times for more accuracy.
